Accused ID Thief Arrested
Marcus Jones allegedly used stolen ID during arrests and convictions

County Attorney Andrew Thomas announced today that Marcus Jones (DOB 6/26/72) has been indicted
on five counts of Taking the Identity of Another and five counts of Forgery. According to the indictment
Jones allegedly used the stolen ID of an Ohio man since at least 2001. He is accused of using it when he
obtained a driver’s license and when he pled guilty in criminal cases in 2003 and 2008.

The victim contacted the Maricopa County Attorney’s Office after experiencing legal, financial and tax
complications resulting from the alleged ID theft.

The investigation initiated by detectives at the Maricopa County Attorney’s Office led to the indictment
which was handed down on November 18, 2009. On November 30, Jones was arrested by MCAO
detectives assisted by the US Marshal’s Office. Investigators discovered Jones has a business, several
vehicles, and credit cards allegedly in the name of the victim. Deputy County Attorney Adam Susser is
prosecuting the case.

Thomas stated, “We appreciate the work of our detectives and the help of the US Marshal’s Office. We
hope this investigation will provide some relief to Jones’ alleged victim.”
