Williams Companies Inc (NYSE:WMB) is expected to spend less on capital projects in 2016 than in 2015. The company recently trimmed capital plan for 2016 by $1 billion, which means that the new capital plan is nearly a third less than what it spent last year.
The capital spending cut affects the main Williams and its master limited partnership called Williams Partners LP (NYSE:WPZ).
Williams is cutting its capital budget at a time when its industry is going through pressures stemming from the rout in crude prices. As such, the spending cuts are designed to preserve cash.
Various analysts have recently commented on the outlook of Williams. Zacks currently rates the stock a SELL after recently cutting its rating from a HOLD. Jefferies maintains a BUY rating on the stock, but recently lowered its price target to $43 from $36.
